Parental separation and divorce is associated with approximately a 50-200% increase in problems for the children (psychological, academic, and social impairment). Children in some families are significantly impacted while children in others make this transition with relatively little impact.
Research studies have confirmed that the children who do struggle following divorce struggle specifically because of factors associated with the divorce. The divorce and issues surrounding the divorce are identified as responsible for most of the increased risk of psychological, academic, and social problems.
