Provisional Professional Counselor
Are you trying to unravel life’s struggles? Are you interested in developing long term changes towards a healthier and more pleasurable life?
Life is a journey with numerous crossroads and many obstacles. Counseling is a guide, a companion, and at times a vehicle to help you navigate an overcome any difficulty. It takes courage to move towards healing and finding hope again when all seems lost. The first step in getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are. My purpose as a counselor is to travel along side of you in your journey of life and to offer non-judgmental support as you grow and improve your mental health. I meet clients where they are and help them to find hope and discover their true potential. I will provide insight while gently challenging you to increase your self-awareness to move towards healthier relationships and improve self-worth. You will experience acceptance, warmth, humor and compassion in our therapeutic relationship.
I received my BS in Psychology from the University of Wyoming, my BA in Sociology from the University of Vermont and my MA in Clinical Psychology from Saint Michael’s College. I also have completed most of the coursework for the Counselor in Education Doctoral Program at the University of Colorado (We call it “ABD”, all but dissertation). While I currently work at Mind Spa providing help via more traditional outpatient care, I also have extensive training as a mental health counselor in county detention facilities working with individuals who are incarcerated. I currently hold a provisional license in Wyoming as a Professional Counselor. My 16 years of working with severe mental illness has taught me profound humility in the face of the deepest layers of humanity. I am experienced in working with people who suffer from addictions and am familiar with the legal obligations of individuals who have been become involved with the legal system as a result of their addictions.
I was born in Northern Wyoming and have been away from my home state for a long 20 years and am very glad to be back. I lived in Colorado for 10 years prior to moving back to Wyoming in 2015. Prior to living in Colorado I lived 5 years in a small town in Vermont and 5 years in Portland Oregon. The majority of my adult life I have been a counselor, but I was raised on a farm and ranch where we raised cattle, wheat, alfalfa and sugar beets. I also spent an interesting 6 years working for construction companies on both coasts doing mainly excavation and directional drilling.
